NYC: Thursday

Up until yesterday, Jessica hadn't even heard of Portalicity. So the trip back to NYC, along with a special guest, was quite easier than expected.

Malcolm had already done the groundwork for the case which was the usual: A wife cheating on the husband and the husband paying Hogarth for proof of the affair for a future divorce trial.

The case was unusual in one aspect: The credit card reports did not show any kind of use at the usual dive hotels used for hookups. However Malcolm had discovered a lease in the woman's maiden name that was still active. In Brownsville.

The place in question looked more like an abandoned building than an apartment which for some reason made Jessica uneasy.

Still, she had found a point on the roof of a main building that had sight on both the main and back entrances of the building. And she had two full flasks with her to keep her warm.

Hopefully her guest had brought his own. It could be a long day.

"Is this as glamorous as your LA stakeouts?" she asked as she peered through her telephoto lens.

"Why on Earth is this woman coming after you anyway?" Lucifer asked, kicking the tire-iron-bearer into the wall.

"Must be my sparkling personality," Jessica deadpanned as she grabbed the next guy and tossed him into the ceiling and letting him crash to the ground.
"It drives all the women wild."

"Well, you have looks, a decent left hook, and sarcasm," Lucifer said, stepping neatly over the body of the man she'd just thrown.

The next one didn't carry any weapons. He sighed, fiddling with his cuffs again as he dodged one way, then the other, and finally just headbutted the woman.

Jessica watched the headbutt and shrugged as that was indeed impressive.

"Truth is? Her mother got killed in a collapsed building during a fight between aliens and the Avengers," she explained, grunting sometime in the middle of that statement as she threw another person through the wall. "And since I got on her radar she thought I was an easy target."

"Oh, right, I faintly remember you hollering something like that when people were shooting at us," Lucifer remembered, peeling her latest victim off the wall and flinging him further down the hall.

He dodged out of the way of an incoming knife, slammed his arm down so the woman dropped it, and shoved the criminal towards Jessica.

Using the momentum, Jessica slammed the woman into the wall leaving a human shape dent in the drywall. Unfortunately that left her open to two thugs grabbing her and shoving her through an open door.

For a moment there were just sounds of fighting right before a body flew through the door and against the opposite wall followed by another unconscious body hitting the floor. Jessica then returned to the hallway carrying a dented microwave. The next attacker got bashed with the small appliance before she threw it at the next target available.

“Pretty persistent for a bunch of assholes,” she grunted.

"Well, they'll notice they're running out of backup in a moment, I'm sure," Lucifer said, flinging an assailant over his shoulder.

Had he known the man's buddy was standing right behind him? Probably.

“Great. Then we just have to deal with the cops,” Jessica grumbled as she threw an elbow into the head of one woman and then punched her one more time for good measure. “If we don’t get arrested I know a shawarma place a couple blocks over if you’re hungry.”

"Is it actually a good one?" Lucifer asked, distrustful.

Which left him distracted long enough for one of the last guys to stab him in the chest. Or at least try to, since he couldn't actually puncture the skin.

"--Oh, how dare you," he said, giving the man an affronted look. "I really liked this shirt!"

He pushed the guy out cold.

Jessica smirked at the knocked out guy on the floor.

“Well supposedly the Avengers ate there after saving the world so...”

Meanwhile she had grabbed one of the attackers arms, twisting it around to their back and shoving him against the wall. “Tell the to back the fuck off,” she said gesturing to the rest of the group. After an unkind comment from the attacker she smashed his head into the wall.

“Sorry,” she said to Lucifer. And then smirked. “Not today, Satan.”

She might have been sitting on that one for the right occasion.”

Lucifer cast her a look. "Points for effort," he said, "But now you've wasted a perfectly good Devil pun on these sad bastards."

For shame, miss Jones!

He was so disappointed the last man coming his way got little more than a flat-palmed blow to the chest, which sent him flying before he hit the ground a dozen feet away.

Actually Lucifer's reaction was exactly what Jessica was hoping for.

No shame here. Nope. Not at all

And that's when the sirens were heard.

"Want to bolt or do you think you can talk your way out of this?" Jessica asked as she pulled some drywall out of her hair.

"Normally I'd stay to talk to the police," Lucifer mused, "It's always funny when they try to put me in handcuffs. But you are headed home to Fandom tomorrow, aren't you?"

Jessica sighed. “Yeah. Right after I punch a lawyer.”

Well. Maybe just shout at her and get her double rate for endangering Jessica’s life.

"Then I suppose leaving now would be better," Lucifer said. "Less hassle, and it's not like you'll be around for the manhunt."
