MHA #5 - Saturday Morning

It had been a week. Between the pollen, the drinking and the extra curricular activities, Jessica was pretty much done with the island. So much so she drank a lot last night. Enough for her to pass out.

When she awoke she was in bed. Which was odd because that's not where she was drinking last night. Plus the bedsheets had been changed and someone had tidied up her room.

And there were unfamiliar smells in her apartment.

And noises. Clanging noises.

She sat up in bed in alarm, her eyes going back and forth rapidly.

"I don't know who is in my apartment but I can kick your ass," She shouted pulling herself out of bed and-

Okay. the jeans she had been wearing the day before and left in a crumpled heap on the floor next to her were not there.

"Where are my fucking pants?!"

Jessica sulked a bit at being ordered around by a kid.

But damn those pancakes looked good.

"Okay. But I'm not putting in any money in there."

She sullenly sat down at the table, took a bite of pancakes and a sip of her coffee.

"There. Explain."

It was difficult to see who was the childish on here.

The child almost smiled. She took the chair across the table from Jessica and took a deep breath.

"Fine. My name is Danielle Cage. You usually call me Dani. I'm from an alternative or possible timeline in your future. You're my mom. Luke Cage is my dad. I got sucked through a portal to this island and because you told me this story about a zillion times, I knew this would happen and what to do to find you."

She smirked.

"Have another pancake."

Jessica scowled but only ate another bite of pancake.

"So I told you my address and how to find me?"

"No. I just went to the liquor store. They knew where you lived."

Jessica scowled some more. But she was not eating another pancake bite.

"How do I know you're not just some evil kid out to get me?" she asked, half-serious.

Okay. Mostly serious.

"Birch Street, Higgins Drive, Cobalt Lane."

That... That was something.

Jessica sat there for a moment just staring at the kid.

She had Luke's eyes.

The resting bitch face was definitely Jessica's.

There was something in her chest that felt like a soft pop. How the hell did she suddenly have feelings for a kid she just met?

She looked around the room. Clearly the kid knew how to clean up after herself. And Jessica's self. She felt both horrible, awkward and... nice all at the same time.

Struggling for something to say she finally just looked back at Danielle.

The girl just sat there and slowly a smile crossed her face. "Believe me now?"

And that was Luke's smile.

Jessica took a deep breath and tried to regain some composure.

So she started eating the pancakes.

"I'm still not using the swear jar."
